Cinema re-opens after make-over

I’ve always loved hanging out in the back row of cinemas, so I was delighted to receive an invite to the grand re-opening of our local picture house and off-licence.

Kino & Vino has undergone an exhaustive and cheap 14-year refurbishment which means it can now play movies with sound and everything.

The grand gala re-opening was a lavish affair, with all the leading lights of local villagist society there for the free food and drink and to watch a special screening of the video that Mr and Mrs Divot, who live down the lane, took on their exotic, 5-star cruise holiday around the coast of Anglesey last summer.

The new-look cinema has usherettes serving hot and cold food, drinks and items of knitwear:

A full programme of special screenings is planned for the summer, including some outdoor “Films in the Park” events if the owners can find someone willing to lend them another projector, they get permission off of the local authorities and they can find a park.

A list of screenings is taped to the notice board outside Kino & Vino, alongside a run-down of the special offers on alcopops and cocktails in the off-licence.

This is a welcome addition to our village’s cultural portfolio and film listings will also appear in The Shouty Villager if Derek finds the piece of paper they’re written on.

  • I hope that Mr and Mrs Divot enjoyed their “exotic” cruise around the Anglesey coast last summer. There is much to see along the coast and last November we had the opportunity to charter a boat from Amlwch port (on the North coast) and observe some bottle nosed dolphins. It was a fantastic experience.

  • Phillips, Mr,

Judging from the video, Mr and Mrs Divot who live down the lane had what can only be described as a “total blast” circumnavigating Anglesey.

It looked so good, in fact, that I will be taking Mrs Belm (my wife) to the isle when she is least expecting it.
